PB4L

What we do when others get hurt
This morning for PB4L we learnt about what we should do when others are hurt.
Number-1: Always tell the teacher on duty. Don't take them to the sick bay it is the teachers call.
Number-2: Don't crowd around the victim because they need air and if you surround them. Not enough air will come through for them to breathe.
Number-3: If the teacher needs help be a responsible helper.
Number-4: Now that you have helped a little bit. The teacher will either say: Go have a little sit , Go have a drink of water or...Can you take him or her to the sick bay please.
Now take the victim to where the teacher told you to take them.
But if you just have a little cut there is no need to go to the office. The duty teacher will already have band aids. Just ask the teacher on duty for a band aid.
But what if the teacher had no band aids?
If all of the duty teachers have no band aids. The last teacher you will ask might send you to the office to get some band aids.
So there it is. When you see someone hurt just follow this.
Thank you for reading!

Hour of code.

On Wednesday the 7th of December we did hour of code. We did it with our buddy class room 2.
Here is me and my buddy. We got to pick a coding game out of Mine craft , star wars and Moana. Me and my buddy Rosa from room 2 chose Moana. I have to admit it was pretty hard especially getting her attention but thats because she is only little. Also when we were coding i was getting tired of clicking the "move forward" buttons. It was hurting my hand.
What is coding?
coding is when you have to use like codes or buttons that say "forward , left , right". The most challenging part is the zig zag. You can get mixed up with all the forward , right , forward left. It was really challenging and hard. When I was doing the Moana one we had to cut the rope and protect our self from the kakamora.
What did I learn?
When I was with my buddy I learnt to get her attention and make sure that she understands what we were doing. In the coding challenge I learnt that you don't just need arrows to find your way somewhere. You can use specific directions like turn right then move/drive forward. Or you can say turn left move forward then turn right. My lesson for next time is to keep on track. What I mean is when I do zig zag I should know where I am at when I do left , forward right.
So my question for you guys is...
Have you ever had an hour of code?

How to make a fruit parfait.

Last Friday on the 11 of November we made a fruit parfait with our buddy class room 2.
  • Here is a recipe and instructions on how to make it!
  • You will need yogurt
  • fruit like grapes and kiwi
  • peach and banana
  • Apple
  • Muesli and weetbix
  • Milk and yogurt
  • cups and knives
  •  spoons and chopping board

First you wanna chop up all your fruits. If you are working with kids they should be supervised or they should be using a small and not really sharp knife. We don't want any fingers to get chopped off. Then you want to pour your muesli and weetbix into a bowl. The reason why we are using weetbix is because if you have a nut allergy you can use weetbix.

But you can also use weetbix  if you don't  like weetbix.
Next grab some yogurt. Make sure it is a big tub of yogurt. But if it isn't pour it into a bowl. After that you are reading to start.  Start off by putting in a table spoon full of yogurt into the bottom of your cup a thin layer. Grab your choice of fruit and put it on top of the yogurt. Then muesli/weetbix. Repeat the steps until your cup is FULL!
So next time you are hungry you can make a fruit parfait. Here are some tips.
  • Don't put heaps of yogurt in if you are a child or have a little sis/bro
  • Don't put to much yogurt in.
  • Don't use heaps of fruit if you are doing it at school or in a group.
  • Make sure you have enough ingrediaents.
Thank you for reading. Have you tasted fruit parfaits?
Have you tasted a regular parfait.

Athletics: Shot put.

Shot put
As some of you may know we have been doing athletics this term.
Today our coach taught us about shot put and some tips!
Shot put balls are very hard and if you throw one you could easily break your wrist.
Valerie Adams is New Zealand shot put star!
If you have held a shot put ball before did you realise how heavy it is?
Today we were using different shot put balls for our lesson and all I could say is that it would probably be 90% lighter then a normal shot put ball!
We learnt something called dirty neck , dirty fingers , clean palms!
What this means is that you should be holding the shot put ball with your fingers and putting it on your neck. Your palms should not be touching the shot put ball.
We also learnt that you should twist your arm so you could see your wrist and palm.
You shouldn't throw the ball. Just rock then...PUSH!
As I said before if you throw an actual shot put ball you could break your hand.
So we have now come to the conclusion of this post remember these simple steps!
1.Dirty fingers
                                                                        2.Dirty neck
3.clean palm
4.Twist your hand so that you could see your palm
5.Don't throw the ball.
So if you are doing athletics maybe this can help you with shot put!

New world trip.

  Our trip to New world
Today at 11.00 o'clock we went down to New world.
We went there to do some labelling on healthy food and unhealthy food.
We had to look at labels of Milk products, cereals, snacks, muesli bar's and bread.
We had to  choose a healthy option and a sometimes eat option.
For example I will do brown bread as a everyday option and white bread as a sometimes option.
We started in the muesli bar isle. We got to choose a healthy and a unhealthy option. I chose nature valley and oat muesli bar. The healthy was nature valley oats and honey.
When you label it it must be like this: Energy:lower amount
Fat total:less then 10g , sugar less than 10g Dietary fibre more than 5g
sodium less than 400mg. If you are doing milk products it will have calcium. Calcium for strong bones and teeth.
We had to fill out a piece of paper with names like bread breakfast cereals and stuff.
After muesli bar we went onto snacks. This is where we can choose out of crackers, chips, chocolate or other snack foods. But we couldn't do two chocolates that were different. We had to choose lollies and crackers or chocolate and chips. Why? Because we don't eat chocolate everyday. Also because it isn't a healthy option. I will now explain the labelling.
On the side of cereals or other foods there should be a column. It will have the energy, fat total, sugar, dietary fibre and sodium. Now at the top it will say per 100g. Now that's what you want to write down when you are at the supermarket. What one is healthy? and what one isn't healthy. When I was little something called yakult was made for kids. But the thing was it had no calcium. So other parent's are wasting there money thinking that there children will get strong. Then LOOK closely at the label. NO CALCIUM.
Just like nut bars when they say: fruity muesli bar. With apricot raisins and oats. That is a LIE. When I was little my dentist told me to stop eating specific muesli bars because they weren't healthy and they weren't helping my TEETH. People should look at the labels on there food before they get it. For example if your mum wants to get white bread because it is yum. Tell her to get multi grain or wheat meal. Like my dad he gets me wheatmeal bread. When I was little I use to feel left out because my friends had white bread and I had brown bread. But I actually had healthy bread.
Here are some tips.
Uncle Toby porridge is another good breakfast option.
some crackers are healthy.
So remember to read the labels and find healthier food options.

Athletics.

Learning how to sprint.
Today in the afternoon we learnt some skills for sprinting.
Cheek to cheek  and opposites.
These are two of the five that we learnt. Cheek to cheek is going from your top cheek to your bottom cheek like this..
opposite is just like the cheek to cheek. But your right leg is in front and left hand is in front. So it is opposite. Sometimes it is hard but it won't be hard if you practise.
Next up we learnt: Eyes on the prize not on the other guys. This means that you look straight. Like where you are running. If you look at your mates or opponents you have a 100 % chance of running crooked. So if you are running and you want to win 10.00 dollars. Don't look at your opponents.
The next step is high knees. High knees help you to have light feet. Lastly it helps you with running faster and better!
So Thank you for reading my blog post about sprinting. Next time when you run or do a athletic race remember these 4 skills. To help you run better and faster. Thanks

Food pyramid

Here is my food pyramid because this term we have been learning a lot about nutrition. Here is a food pyramid of what you eat more and what you should eat less.

Math language

This is my drawing of number 4 in different languages.
Which one of theses languages are you? Can you say any of these?

Being sunsmart

We have been learning about: Being sun smart. Here is my advice on being sun smart and how to keep safe from the sun. Hope you enjoy. have you ever been sunburn? Are you sun smart?

Peace child reflection.

This term we had production called the Peace child. This is my reflection and how I felt. So here is how I felt. Have you ever had a production?  If yes what was your production on and how you feel?

How to be healthy

                                                              How to be healthy.
This term we have been doing a little bit of learning about nutrition.
We have learnt a lot about keeping our body, brain and heart healthy.
Here are a few facts and tips on being healthy
fact.1: If you don't eat you are gaining weight.
fact.2:You can only go without water for 3 days and food for 3 weeks
Tip.1 Go for daily exercise.
Tip.2 Cleaning is excising.
Measure your palm and that should be how much food you eat (Not including junk)
But what should we eat? Some healthy lunch options are: A sandwich with veggies and some fruit's.
This lunch is a very healthy option.
Tip: You can have at least one or two small packets of chips.
Try not to eat pies for lunch. Instead you can replace it with a kebab.
If you have no breakfast (which you should have) ,lunch or something unhealthy. Your metabolism won't produce enough fuel. Your metabolism gives you energy to move around and play or to learn.
So make sure you eat enough and drink enough.
For example cars have gas to keep them running.
If you think juice is healthy. Maybe you should listen to this.
Juice has it's own sugar. You are better off having water or home made juice with out sugar or even home made lemonade with a little bit of sugar. In diet drinks they have a sugar called aspartame.
Did you know that I watched something called the big ward. On the show it is about people losing weight. This lady wanted to lose weight. All she had to drink was cranberry juice. The doctor told her: "That does not help you lose weight". The lady couldn't believe it. All this time she wasn't losing weight she was putting on weight.
So make sure you keep your body very healthy.
Being healthy can actually make you live longer. Once when we went to speeches this girl  had a speech about: Why we shouldn't eat vegetables. But eating vegetables is good. So remember to eat 5 plus a day, exercise and drink 8 cups of water.
Also you can have some treats like a small chocolate bar or some lollies.

On Wednesday the 31st of august we had school speeches.
It was the actual final where we had to perform in front of the kauri syndicate.
At first I was terribly nervous I didn't want to do my speech. Why? because I was 2nd to last and I heard a lot of good speeches. I kinda wished that I didn't sign up to do a speech.
But i just gave it a go.
My speech mas about why school is important.
I was incredibly nervous.
I had thought's like:
Did I write enough facts,Will I explain it properly,Will it be a good topic.
I had a bunch of thought's holding me back from doing my speech but then I had another thought that said a little something like this..You can't escape you have already signed up.
It was finally my turn.  I started off from nervous to I want to do my speech again. My speech was well presented and I have never though of performing in front of the kauri syndicate.
When everybody finished there speech the judges were doing the results. They were deciding who were 1st,2nd and 3rd.
At last they came in for the results.
In 3rd place with a tie was.......Fifita & Vika!(Vika in green Fifita in the middle)
There time was close to 3 minutes.
In 2nd place was.....Dinah! (me)
For a well presented speech.
1st place was....Danae
Her speech topic was good and delivered well.
Thank you
Andrea,Mrs Moore, Mrs Mellick and Mrs Barton for setting up the speeches .

Cross country
This is a photo of me running in cross country.
I came in fifth place out of the year six girls.
I thought I ran pretty well but I ran to fast at the beginning.
I was so glad cross country was over to be very honest.
It was cold before we started but when we started running it was so HOT!
My favourite part was running through the big inflatable balloon .
Thank you Mrs Petrus for a great morning

Ear health.

Today Tuesday the 2nd of August. Some students from Lynfield college came to teach us about ears and how to keep our ears clean, healthy and safe from damage.

Are you a person that listens to really loud music?
Because if you are you have this post to help you stop!
Ears are important for humans because we all love music and we all love watching television.
But unfortunately people are beginning to lose there hearing.
Why is that?,You may ask.Because people are listening to music or things that are over 85 decibels

This is a photo of the hears in your ears. The one one the left hand side is a perfectly good hear. But on the right hand side that is a badly damaged hear in your ear.
Can my hear damage get fixed?,you may ask.Well the answer is no.
Here is a experiment that you can do.
                                                              what you'll need:
                                                             Pipe cleaners
Start off by brushing through your pipe cleaners. But do a nice slow gental one because its acting like it is below 85 decibels. Then after that brush through it so hard. When you brush through it so hard its like over 85 decibels. Which acts like your music is super loud.
After that you try to fix the pipe cleaner. Ahh do you get it now? The pipe cleaners acts like ear hears. When you try fix it.The pipe cleaner can not be fixed.
It is very easy to lose your hearing in your ear.Your ears can help you with learning and watching videos.
The next time I would like to learn about your vision.
This really convinces me to look after my ears
Here is some advice on how to look after our ears.
1.Wear earplugs when you are at a concert or singing lesson.
2.When using the lawnmower.Put some ear muffs on.
Turn it down, walk away and Protect your EARS!

Maths Place value war

                                                         Maths place value war game
Looking for a maths game to play with cards?
Well you're in luck cause im going to explain to YOU how to play this place value war game

                                                                            How to play:
So you need 2 people and cards.Make sure that the cards only have Ace to nine.No Jack,King,Queens or tens.Next you have to give out your cards equally so that each player has the same amount of cards.
Make sure you don't look at the numbers on your cards in your pile. Then each player flips over 2 numbers to make a 2 digit number.
Make sure you say what is on the cards like this:Eight tens and eight ones. The first number you put out represents the tens and the second number represents the ones. The person who had the highest number wins and the rest of the players give there cards that they flipped over to the winner.

If two people have the same numbers. They have to add another number to make a 3 digit number. For example:Angelina has 56 and Samuel has 5 tens and six ones as well. When you have the same number as somebody else they have declared war.If Angelina puts 8 down she will have : 5 hundredths,Six tens and Eight ones.Which makes 568.Then Samuel puts down 2.Samuel will have : 5 hundredths,Six tens and Two ones.

Angelina has declared war which means she won.So she collects all cards. She doesn't collect all your cards.Just the ones you have flipped over. Here is a little tip : Keep your winning cards to the side so that if you run out of cards you can use your winning cards

Samoan language week.

In week 5 we had Samoan language week 2016.
Here is a post of what happened on Samoan Language week.
On Monday we went to the taste of Samoa. We got to see and taste things from the lovely Samoa!Me and Vika's favourite things were the Jewelry and koko from Samoa. The koko was very nice.Me and Vika thought it was so nice that we felt like we were in heaven!

He is a little picture of the koko table. At the bottom right of the photo you can see the beans for the koko. The beans are also made for chocolate in Samoa. Some people didn't really like the Koko or the taste of the Koko bean.It was because they bean kinda tasted like burnt toasts.
This is a photo of Vika wearing something that the people of Samoa will wear for dancing. In the background you could see some Samoan props/things.The props and bags were very lovely and they were handmade! My favourite bag was this coconut bag where you could put water into that bag from the waterfall.
This is a photo of Poe peeling Taro.Samoan people use tin cans to peel taro.We got to try and peel the taro with the tin can.The Samoan people cut the can. Then they use it to peel taro.I think that the can would be easier to peel a taro instead of a knife or grater.
On Wednesday we also had a Samoan independence day.We got to taste a Samoan banana.

This is a photo on the last day of Samoan language week.On Friday we had a Samoan assembly. They did a play called Sina & the Eel.They also sung some song and done some dances. After the assembly we got to eat some chop suey and rice and it was AMAZING! I loved the Samoan language week because it was full of Samoan traditions. What do you like about the Samoan culture or the Samoan language week?
